About the Debate Competition

In the face of escalating climate challenges, Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) has emerged as a critical technological pathway for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To foster dynamic thinking and articulate communication among future climate leaders, this debate competition invites undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students involved in CCUS research and allied domains to express, argue, and defend their viewpoints on the multifaceted aspects of CCUS.

Open to All UG, PG and PhD students in India 

Prize Money

For PhD and PG 
  • 1st prize – INR 15,000/- 
  • 2nd prize – INR 10,000/- 
  • 3rd prizes (2) – INR 5,000/- 
 
Stage 3 (for UG) 
  • 1st prize – INR 10,000/- 
  • 2nd prize – INR 7,500/- 
 
Travel support (for stage 3 finalists) – Total 12 
  • Within Mumbai region – INR 2500 
  • Rest of India – INR 10000

Objectives and Impact: 

  • To cultivate public speaking, argumentation, and scientific communication skills in students. 

  • To create a cross-disciplinary community of young professionals capable of framing and defending scientific viewpoints in public and policy spaces. 

  • To foster critical thinking and solution-oriented discussions on real-world sustainability challenges. 

  • To prepare a communication-ready workforce for the CCUS sector and the broader climate action ecosystem. 

Structure

  • Stage 1: Submission of Perspective Statements – Students will submit a short write-up (500 words) presenting their unique viewpoint on a selected CCUS topic. 

  • Stage 2: Preliminary Rounds (Virtual) – Shortlisted students will engage in virtual debate rounds grouped by topic clusters. 

  • Stage 3: Final Live Debate (In-person) – Top participants across levels will come together for a grand finale where diverse perspectives will be synthesized and deliberated upon in front of an expert jury and a live audience.
